        • OCLC FirstSearch Project -- The State Library, using "Live and Learn Initiative" funds, provides members unlimited, no-charge access to a core group of FirstSearch databases in Fall of 1994 ($500K/yr.)
        • ILDS (Intersystem Library Delivery Service), funded by the State Library, links the state's 12 regional library systems.

  10. MARYLAND
    • SAILOR -- Maryland's Online Public Information Network
      1. Established: 1995
      2. Funding: Maryland State Department of Education's Division of Library Development and Services has dedicated two years of LSCA funds; the State of Maryland is providing $250,000 in FY 1996 to cover telecommunications ongoing costs
      3. Type: Multitype
      4. Technology Base: The Sailor telecommunications network consists of 18 host sites around the state that provide direct access to the Sailor Network in 21 counties; the Operations Center maintains a web and gopher server on a Sparc 1000 housed at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore

  11. MINNESOTA

      2. Funding: The state legislature has provided $150K in planning money to the Higher Education Services Office to design a statewide library information system open to participation by all libraries, including K-12. The project has be conceived of in 3 stages -- academic libraries (est. $8M); grants to public libraries ($10M); and support for K-12 ($6M); The project, which has the support of the governor, will be submitted to the legislature in Jan. 1997 for funding of the first phase.

  12. MISSOURI
    • Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet)
      1. Established: 1990
      2. Funding: Established with NSF funding in 1990 to connect the institutions of higher education and now has the K-12 public schools being connected as well. The President of the University of Missouri is advocating the establishment of a cooperative library program based on the OhioLink model and is requesting state funding for FY 1997-98. On June 11, 1996, the Governor signed the legislation for funding the project: $3M for library automation projects, $6M for community information networks, $20M for school technology, and $16.7M for higher education information technology.
